Oleksandr Savchenko
Composer, conductor and pianist. Author of symphonic and chamber works, choral music, songs and piano pieces.
The music grew out of the word: almost every piece began as a poem. Forty years of church ministry, work with choirs and orchestras, teaching — all of it is gathered here, in the catalogue of scores and recordings.
Some of the material stays free to download, so that small church choirs can sing without worrying about a budget. Buying the rest supports the writing of new works.
The first scores
The music began with the word. My first arrangements were written for the choir of my home church — there was not enough sheet music, and we wanted to sing well and in tune. That is how the first scores appeared: at first arrangements of well-known hymns, then my own melodies for texts that came together on their own.
By the mid-nineties there was repertoire enough for several programmes, and it became clear that this was not a hobby but a ministry.

At the conductor’s stand
For more than twenty years I have worked with choirs and orchestras: rehearsals, learning the parts, preparing festival programmes. Out of that work grew an understanding of what a piece has to be like for an ordinary church choir to sing it — without conservatory training, but cleanly and from the heart.
That is why the scores keep a moderate range, comfortable intervals and notes for the choir director with every work.

Catalogue and teaching
Today I live and serve in the United States, and I keep writing and teaching. The catalogue is gathered here on the site: scores, choral parts, orchestral parts and backing tracks.
Most of the sheet music stays free to download, so that small choirs can sing without worrying about a budget. Buying the rest of the material and the books supports the work on new pieces.
